Soon after completing military service in WWII a young George Loton
established Australia's first independent stock counting and valuation
services for hotels, liquor stores, supermarkets, restaurants, hardware
stores and milk bars. He quickly developed a great reputation for
honest and reliable stocktake services at the sale of businesses.
In 1991, after more than 40 years, George retired and Greg Schooneveldt
became Managing Director. Greg has a technical background with a PhD
from Cambridge and soon introduced hand-held barcode scanners to facilitate
fast and accurate data collection.
With technical improvements came strategic growth and LOTONS soon
acquired smaller stocktake businesses and established offices throughout
Australasia. Mergers, acquisitions and agencies include Computa Count
in NSW, GRM Stock Valuers in Adelaide, Perth Stocktaking and Centrox
in WA and most recently Orridge in Auckland NZ.
LOTONS increasingly service large national clients and have moved
into new retail industries, including pharmacy, warehousing and clothing.
They have also established alternative services like asset registers
and plant and equipment valuations for government and private business
sectors.
Today LOTONS is the oldest and largest stock and asset inventory service
provider in the region, conducting over 4,000 inventories each year
and employing around 200 staff.
